Notes:

John was born in Trenton, Tx. which is just north of Leonard, Tx. where his
brother George Norris Prather and other members of his family are buried.
John probably recieved his middle name from the Parker family which owened
large farms in the area. The Prathers probably worked for or were in business
with the Parkers.
John moved west and died in Tulia, Tx.

John married Ellen Frances Goodman 11 Apr 1904, Texas. Ellen was born 19 Mar 1887, of Tx; died 05 May 1950, Tx.; was buried , Tulia, Tx.. [Group Sheet]

He moved from McMinn Co., TN. to Bradley Co., TN. then later to Texas.
He moved several times, conducting services as a Meth. Minister, farmer, and
added to his income by building Coffins.
When in Texas he lived near Trenton, Fannin Co., TX. where he farmed.
He may have also lived for a short time in Ellis Co., TX.
He settled for a time near Orangeville, TX. and later moved to Denison,
Grayson Co., TX. where he died.

John married Josephine Bef 1878, McMinn Co., Tn. Josephine was born , Ellis Co., Tx.; was christened , of Indian Bloodline.. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

In a letter I recieved Sept., 1996 from Stanley A. Prather:
"My paternal grandfather, John Parker Prather was the son of John Alfred
Prather and a half-indian woman named Josephine, maiden name unknown.
Family bible records say she was born in Ellis Co., TX.
Josephine was the housekeeper for John and we assume that John was married at
the time Josephine had his child. There was much trouble in the family over
this but John A. Prather saw to it that his son was cared for.

EmM. Newton a defendant. Prater and wife Elizabeth of Bradley Co.,
Elizabeth formerly wife of John Swaffer Sr., dec'd. The Swaffers in his
lifetime sold burriss 80 acres for their support during their lifetime, they
both being old and decrepit, she about sixty six. This Burriss refused to do;
she sued and comprimised by accepting $200. Newton bought land and she took
notes. Burriss bought again from Newton. Newton refuses to give trust deed.
Elizabeth and Thomas married 27 Aug., 1884. Jim Burriss is brother to Wash.

William married Rebecca Elizabeth Middleton of, Pickens, Sc. Rebecca (daughter of John Middleton and Mrs John Middleton) was born Abt 1790, of, Pickens, Sc; died Aft 1880, McMinn Co., Tn.. [Group Sheet]
