    Notes:

He was born in Ky. and later moved to Salt Lick, Jackson Co., IN. and was
listed living there in the 1830 census.
He was a soldier in the "Black Hawk War." (as a private)
He served a very short time .... prob. only a couple of weeks,
because he never fought in a battle because by the time his Reg. got
to the battle scene the Indians had retreated across the river, so after a few
a few days the soldiers went back home to their farms.
He then moved to Schuyler Co., IL. in late 1830 and then to Sangamon Co.,
IL. then settled in Woodland Township, Fulton Co., IL. by the end of 1831.
It is said that he was thrown from a horse and injured badly. these injuries
may have been the cause of his suicide ???

    Organization of Illinois Volunteers
    Black Hawk Campaing of 1831
Commander in Chief, Governor John Reynolds
    Brigade Commander, Joseph Duncan
    1st Regiment Commander, Daniel Leib
Company Commander, capt. Peter C. Vance
Commissioned 17th day of June, 1831 to the 2 Jyly, 1831 the day of its
disbandment and discharge at Rock Island 140 miles distance from the company
    Rendezvous.

The Troops, numbering 1400 to 1600 (the Governor had asked for 700
volunteers), left Rushville on 20 June, arriving at the Sac village on 24
    June.
When they reached to Indian village, they found that the Indians had already
moved across the Mississippi and the troops were left with nothing to do but
burn the wigwams and ravage the countryside.
The locals who had at first welcomed the forces were soon complaining about
the destruction that was being done to their property. In a few days, the
volunteers were mustered out and sent home!
