    Notes:

    In 1909, Milton A. Prater made out his Will, stating he had asked his children
    to return home and care for him when he became agedas James M. Whittle had
    asked him to do, but his children refused. He then left all his land and
    belonging to his niece and nephew - James and Dollie Prater who cared for him
    during his later years.

    His father-in-law, James M. Whittle, made out his Will 9 Mar., 1870 Edgefield
    Dist., S.C. ..... after leaving some land and money to his wife and children
    he leaves the bulk of his estate to Milton A. Prater and Emaline.
    Milton served with Browns Barbeirre Battalion of the Ala. Cavalry.

    Notes:

    By 1840's Hezekiah owned 830 acres at the south edge of Batesburg on Dunkin
    (duncan) Branch of Chinquepin Creek.
    He deeded 124 acres each to his sons, Milton, Wesley, and Mackey.
    At his death, the remainder was divided into 3 tracts known as the "Homestead
    Tract" which consisted of 248 acres; Holston Tract, which consisted of 105
    acres, and the Lee Tract, which consisted of 110 acres.
    The Holston Tract was sold to Lewis Gunter of $305.
    The Lee Tract was sold to Lodowick Hartley, nephew of Widow Ellen, for $875.

    6 sons and at least two sons-in-law of Hezekiah Sr. served in the Confederate
    Army. The war devastated the Prater family.
    Several of his sons names are engraved on the Confederate War Memorial at the
    Lexington Co. Courthouse. Those not listed did not serve from Lexington
    County, thus their names are not listed on this Memorial.

    Ellen Prater resided with the family of her daughter Elizabeth Jones who owned
    and operated a hotel in Batesburg.

    Hezekiah died at age 66. He died as result of 10 days illness of inflamatory
    bowels.

    Notes:

    He moved from Maryland to Newberry, S.C. sometime around the 1780's after his
    service in the Rev. War.
    He is listed 1790 census Newberry Co., South Carolina Roll #3 p.77

    9 Ec., 1803 he bought from Marmaduke Mills, 107 acres on the Bush River.

    He died in 1814 without a Will among the recorded propery sold were books,
    a loom, bee hives, and 6 negro slaves.
    By about 1825 Zachariah's wife had died and all of his children had moved away
    from Newberry Co., except for Nancy who died in Newberry.
    Nancy Prater Sheppard is buried in the Ramage-Sheppard Cem. near Newberry.

    "Zacci" was his nik name, he was listed as Solder #140 in Rev. War records in
    Maryland.
    He died without leaving a Will. His estate was sold with his wife as the
    principal buyer.
