Living — Joyce Mildred Faulk. Joyce (daughter of Walter Wilburn Faulk and Vannette Anne Culpepper) was born 16 Mar 1924, Houston, Tx; died Bef 2000, Spring, Tx., North of Houston. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

* Press built and designed houses, was tought music by members of the family,
and went to night school in New Orleans. He drove a mule-drawn street car in
Atlanta, packed seed for Hastings Seed Co., Atlanta, Ga. then he worked in the
Oil fields near Beaumont, Tx., sang in the choir at First Bapt. Church in
Beaumont, Tx., he bought a farm 7 Mi. West of Beoumont. He died of Typhoid
fever in 1917. In 1968 the family had 3 Oil Wells come in on the Prater Farm.

*Mary died in Houston, Tx. of Cancer. She was daughter of George Henry Dearing
of Barren Co.,Ky.
She was a descendent of Sarah Boone, the sister of the famous Daniel Boone.

Notes:

*Larkin enlisted 30 June,1862 Confederate Army at Edgefield Co.,S.C. and
served under Capt. Lewis Jones. Larkin was killed at the "Battle of Atlanta"
fought 22 July,1864. Emaline remarried to Henry M. Bradley but he died in
1880. She lived as widow in Vaucluse, Gregg Tw., Aiken Co., S.C. until 1890.
She then came West to Texas with her son, James Preston Prater
Larkin also served in Co. B & Aikens Regular Partisan Rangers, the 22nd.

Notes:

By 1840's Hezekiah owned 830 acres at the south edge of Batesburg on Dunkin
(duncan) Branch of Chinquepin Creek.
He deeded 124 acres each to his sons, Milton, Wesley, and Mackey.
At his death, the remainder was divided into 3 tracts known as the "Homestead
Tract" which consisted of 248 acres; Holston Tract, which consisted of 105
acres, and the Lee Tract, which consisted of 110 acres.
The Holston Tract was sold to Lewis Gunter of $305.
The Lee Tract was sold to Lodowick Hartley, nephew of Widow Ellen, for $875.

6 sons and at least two sons-in-law of Hezekiah Sr. served in the Confederate
Army. The war devastated the Prater family.
Several of his sons names are engraved on the Confederate War Memorial at the
Lexington Co. Courthouse. Those not listed did not serve from Lexington
County, thus their names are not listed on this Memorial.

Ellen Prater resided with the family of her daughter Elizabeth Jones who owned
and operated a hotel in Batesburg.

Hezekiah died at age 66. He died as result of 10 days illness of inflamatory
bowels.

Hezekiah married Ellen Nellie Hartley Bef 1814, Lexington, South Carolina. Ellen (daughter of Lewis L Hartley and Ann Holson) was born Abt 1792, of, Lexington, Sc; died Aft 1870, ,,Sc. [Group Sheet]
