    Notes:

    Toccoa is a Cherokee Indian word meaning "Beautiful".
    Taccoa was a beautiful girl (her portrait hangs in the Plantation home today,
    1991). She was to be married, but the day before her wedding she became
    suddenly ill and died, she was about 28 years old. She was buried in her
    wedding dress. She now rest in the Riverside Plantation Cem. (Prather Cem.)
    behind the plantation home.

    He lived in the fine Plantation Home his father built at Taccoa, Ga.
    The Riverside Plantation continues to this day (1991) in the Prather family.
    Mr. Joseph Turnbull Prather is living in the Plantation home that was built
    in 1804. Joseph Jeremiah Prather was a Major in the Confed. Army. (Civil War)
    In the 1860 census a Mary Patton was also living in his household age 24.
    She was prob. his wifes maid.

    About 1848 James moved from Wilks Co.,Ga. to Habersham Co.,Ga.
    It is also thought that he lived at the Prather Plantation home in Taccoa, Ga.
    before moving south to live on his own plantation at Prather, Ga.
    The town of Prather, Ga. was named by the Eastern & Elberton Rail Road for the
    cotton stop that was located on the rail line at the Prather Plantation.
    In 1990 only a few homes stand scattered in the area and no road sign to
    indicate that it is "Prather" except for the older rail maps.

    Notes:

    He settled in a large farm which was later named the site of Prather, GA.
    by the Eastern & Elberton Railroad.
    The railroad made it a produce stop (cotton & grain).
    The railroad maps listed it as "Prather" and later other map makers picked it
    up and indicated it on their maps as Prather, GA.
    Today nothing is there to indicate that Prather, GA. was ever a community, not
    even a sign on the highway which goes through it.
    In 1987 there was on small store and about 6 scattered houses mostly inhabited
    by black familys.

    Prather, GA. is located about a mile or so north of the Washington, GA.
    Airport (just a landing strip in 1987).

    Jere. moved from Maryland to Wilkes Co., GA. about 1792.
    Jeremiah's Will is recorded in Minutes Interior Court, Wilkes Co., GA.
