    Notes:

    About the year 1798, his father took up a tract of land in Venango Co. Pa.;
and with his two sons, Abraham and Robert, rode from Maryland to Venango Co.
on horseback, bringing with them the necessaries of life and some of the
comforts prepared by the mother. The father remained with the boys for awhile
saw them comfortably settled in a log cabin, then left them and returned to
Maryland. During this early period the boys were oftem molested by a band of
roving Indians which occasionally ransacked their cabin and destroyed their
crops. This fact, together with the dispute between their father and the
Holland Land Co. concerning the land they occupied for several years caused
them to return to Maryland. Abraham C. Prather finally returned and purchased
the tract, built a log cabin, and ever afterward made it his home, converting
it into a well tilled farm of 250 acres situated in Cornplanter Township,
    Venango Co., Pa.
He purchased additional lands on some of which was a large amount of valuable
    pine timber.

During the War of 1812, he and his brother-in-law, James Rickets, walked from
Venango Co. to Erie, PA. (60 miles) where he enlisted and served during the
war, as shown by the records at Harrisburg, PA.
Mr. Prather was one of the most highly respected men of his County, ver
energetic and capable in busdiness, kind and jovial in his disposition.

    Notes:

Elizabeth family came from Antrim, North Ireland.
Her husband Thomas went west in about 1801, accompanied by his two sons
Abram (age 15) and Robert (age 13). He arranged for the purchase of a 4
hundred acre tract, and having built a cabin and left sufficient provisions,
returned to the east leaving the two boys in charge. It is related that the
Indians stole all they had except a supply of cornmeal, and they subsisted
upon the charity of the neighbors until the return of their father and
family three months later. Then he moved near the river at East Hickory,
Forest Co., where he resided until his death, 15 Feb., 1818.
The son Abram C. Prather returned to Franklin Co. and learned the trade of
Tanner. He was drafted for service in the War of 1812. After the close of
his term of enlistment he returned to visit his father at East Hickory.
Upon returning he found the 400 acre tract the they had lived on in
1801/02 was still unoccupied, thus he desided to complete the purchase.
He afterward volunteered for the defense of Erie. He built a log house and
afterward a frame building on the Warren road east of Plumer and engaged in
    the Tanning business.

Thomas served in the Revolutionary War under Captain William Berryhill in the
years 1780/81, from Antrim Township, Cumberland Co., Pa.
He also fought in the War of 1812.
