UPSON COUNTY WILL OF John Allison Prather
Thomaston, Georgia
In the name of God, Amen.
I, John A. Prater, of the county and State aforesaid, being of advanced age
and knowing the uncertainty of death and also knowing that I must shortly
depart this life, deem it right and proper both as it respects myself and
family that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind
providence has blest me. I therefore make this my last Will and Testament
hereby revoking and annulling all others heretofore made by me.
Item 1st. I devise and direct that my body be buried in a decent, christaian
like manner suitable to my circumstaces and condition. My Soul, I trust, shall
return to God who gave it as I hope for eternal salvation through the blessed
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ whose religion I have professed and as I humbly
trusted for the last thirty-six years.
Item 2nd. I desire that all my just debts be paid as soon as convenient by my
Executors hereinafter named as I am unwilling that my creditors should be
delayed of their rights.
Item 3rd. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Maryan A. Prater, during her
natural life or widowhood all my Estate after my burial expenses and just
debts are paid both real and personal to be kept together and my farmcarried
on as I am now and have been doing, and it is my will that my beloved wife,
Mary A. Prater, have all such maintence, support, and comfort of and from my
said Estate as shall make her wholly independent and confortable and that the
balance of the crops and increase be kept by my Executors till the death of my
wife, who after death I desire shall be buried in a decent christaian like
manner.
Item 4th. Whenever my beloved wife shall die, then it is my desire and will
that an equal division of my whole Estate, both real and personal and its
increase both from crops or otherwise be devided amont my children or the
lawfoul heirs. The property I have given of to my children heretofore I
consider about the same and eflieve that is about equal to each one.
Item 5th. My will and desire is that Eliza ann Trotter, my daughter, and Nancy
R. briant's children, Michel C. Butts, Elizabeth E. Ansley, Maryan Barron,
Martha J. Smith, all my daughters I give and equal portion of my Estate to
them and thir children not subject to their husband's debets; the property
coming from my estate to Nancy R. Briant's children to remain in the hands of
my sons, William G. Prater & Belton O. Prater till of lawful age who I appoint
as trustees of the property coming to my daughter above.
Item 6th. It is my will and hereby appoint my sons, William G. Prater and
Belton O. Prater, Executors to this my last Will and Testement.
