WILL OF JAMES PRATHER:
In the name of God. I James Prather of Allegany Co., and State of Maryland
being weak and infirm in body, but of sound and disposing mind Considering the
certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirous
to settle my worldly affairs and therebyt be the better prepaired to leave
this world when it shall please God to call me hence do therefore make and
publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is
to say. First and principally ;I commit my Soul unto the hands of Almighty God
and my body to the Earth to be decently burried at the discretion of my
Excutors hereinafter named and after my debtrs are paid and my wife's thirds
are taken out of my property I devcise and bequeath as follows:
I give and bequeath my son charles Prather, all that tract of land I purchased
of Conrad Pusing lying and being in Hamphire Co. and Commonwealth of Virginia
forever. I give and bequeath to my son charles All that tract of land I
purchased of Nacy Jackson lying in Hampshire co. and Commonwealth of Virginia
aforsaid forever. I also give and bequeath to my son Charles four hundred
dollars. Now it is my will and desire that if my said son Charles doesnot
within two years next after my decease appear before my Executors and claim in
person the above mentioned two tracts of land and the four hundred dollars
then in that in that case he failing so to do the above mentioned wwo tracts
of land and the fourhundred dollars shall be disposed of by my Executors as my
personal property. I give and bequeath to my son James Prather the Residue of
the lands I own in the County of Hampshire and Commonwealth of Virginia and
all the lands I own in Allegany County and State of Maryland to be by him held
in fee simple. I also give and bequeath to my son James four hundred dollars
and my Negro man named Harry. I give and bequeath to my son Basil Prather and
to my daughters Elizabeth, Mary Martha, Caty, and Ruth the sum of four hundred
dollars each. I will and desire that the residue of my real and personal
property be sold and the money arising from the sale be eqally divided among
all my children. And lastly I do constitute my son james Prather and Daliel
colli9ns my Exccutors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and
annulling all former wills by me made ratifying and confirming this and none
other to be my last Will and Testament.

The Will of Sarah (Beatty) Prather:
In the name of God Amen. I Sarah Prather of Allegany Co., Md. knowing the
uncertainty of life and anxious to settle and dispose of my earthly property
do make and ordain this present instrument of writing my last Will and
Testament in manner and form following: 1st. I commend my soul to God hoping
and trusting for eternal life through the merits of Christ my Redeemer, and my
body to be decently buried and funeral charges paid out of my estate.
1st. I direct & will my female slave Susanna to be free and discharged from
service of my heirs from the 1st day of May, 1831.
I give one female child called Jane to my granddaughter Elizabeth Riley. Is is
my will that my female slave Susanna and all her children, save the said Jane,
be and remain in the service of my daughter Ruth collins.
It is my will that all my estate after my decease be equally divided among my
children, James, Sarah , Ruth,
Charles, Basil, and Ann.
I appoint my son James, Ex of my estate.
Signed: Aug. 9th, 1824.

her Will but as you can see below that they were included in James Prathers

"The June Court of 1735 appointed THOMAS PRATHER as tobacco burner, replacing
John Nelson who was excused because of illness in his family."
NOTE: A "tobacco burner" was a person who was in charge of the curing of
tobacco in the large tobacco houses. Tobacco was cured by fire drying it.
Will of Thomas Sprigg Prather:
In the name of God, Amen I Thomas Prater of Washington Co., & State of
Maryland being of weak in body, but of sound and perfect mind and memory,
(thanks be to God)
Concerning the uncertainty of this mortal life, and that it is appointed for
all men once to die, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in
manner & form following, (that is to say)
First and principally I recommend my soul to the Almighty God that gave it,
and my body to the dust to be deasonly buried at the discretion of my
Executors hereafter named nothing doubting but that I shall receive the Soul
again at the general Resurrection of all flesh, by the mighty power of God,
and as touching my Wordly Estate, wherewith it has pleased God to bless me.
I give and bequeath in manner and form following-imprimis.
First and principally I will that all my just debts and funeral charges be
paid.

confirming this only to be my last Will and Testament.

Served French and Indian War - he was sheriff and held many important posts -
one of which was the first Justice of the newly formed Frederick Co., in
1749 (Maryland).In the Rev.War he was Commander of the forces in that Co.
He lived at Conegocheague Manor Plantation. His wife was from the Weston
Manor Plantation where the Clagett's lived for generations and still live
there today. / He was also an Episcopal Clergyman in Williamsport, Md.

On 25 June 1700 Ninian Beall conveyed to Thomas 56 acres, part of a tract of
land called St. andrews.
Martha, wife of Thomas Prather and dau. of Thomas Sprigg, in her father's Will
written 9 May, 1704 received one third of a parcel of land containing 500
acres, the Manor of Collinton, on the side next to William Prather's where he
now lives.
Lyle Jane Prater (now Smith) mother of Col. Thomas Prather mentioned him in
her Will written 27 July, 1710
Martha Prather, widow of Thomas Prather, on 29 Apr., 1719 conveyed to her sons
Thomas, John, Phillip and Aaron Prather, when they are eighteen years old.
Thomas, John and phillip each received ten pounds sterling money and Aaron
received fourty pounds sterling money.
