    Notes:

    Samuel S. Prather enlisted as a Sargeant in the 130th Illinois Volunteer
    Infantry on 25 Oct., 1862.
    He resigned from this regiment on 12 Dec., 1863 so that he could accept a
    Commission as 2nd. Lieutenant in Company F. 25th Corps. d'afrigue
    which later became the 93rd Colored Infantry, this was a regiment of negro
    troops from Louisiana. The officers were white.
    He resigned from this regiment on 23 Feb., 1864 because "The condition
    and health of my family is such that my presence is needed at home
    immediately".
    He later enlisted as a Private in the 6th Illinois Cavalry on 16 Feb., 1865.
    He was later promoted to Sargeant.
    According to the regimental records, he deserted at Eastport, MS. on
    2 July, 1865, taking his horse with him.
    The charges were later removed because the charges were found to be
    false because he went home on leave when Sarah was to be born and while home
    Peace was declared, so he was mistakenly classified as a deserter but was
    cleared of the charges and his wife received a Federal Pension.

    He was born in Wayne Co., TN. an worked as a farmer.

    He was 5ft. 10 In. tall, dark complexion, hazel eyes and black hair.
    He died of chronic diarrhea and piles, caused by desease he contracted
    during the Civil War.

    By 1860 he was at Iron Mountain, Iron Co., MO., by 1867/8 he moved to
    Mountian View, Stone Co., Ark. where family members had settled earlier.
    In the 1850 census they were living in Oregon Co., MO.

    Samuel married Amanda J. Howard 09 Aug 1855, Taylorville, Christian Co., Il.. Amanda (daughter of William Howard and Ruth Prather) was born , of Christian Co., Il. [Group Sheet]
