Notes:
James and his wife Catalina met and married in Pauls Valley, Okla.
He was then associated with the Grant Store and who later was a partner of Tom
Martin in the hardware business. They built their first residence on the east
side of Pauls Valley, Okla.
In 1895 they mvoed to Ardmore, Okla. where Mr. Prater was in the hardware
business until his death in 1899.
Mrs. Prater found herself a widow with five small children to support, so she
went back to school at Norman and prepared herself for a career as a school
teacher. She taught until her children were educated and grown. She lived in
Okla.City, Okla. for over 40 years until her death in 1957.
Mrs. Prater was a Presbyterian, a charter member of the YWCA, a director of
the Okla. Children's Home Society, an "89er, a member of the United Daughters
of the Confederacy and the Okla. Historical Society. She was active in the Red
Cross and took an interest in many worthwhile civic organizations and affairs.
