James lived with his oldest sister after his parents died.
His first Presidental ballot was cast in 1872 for Gen. U.S. grant and he has
since been unfaltering in supporrt of the Repub. party.
He was a member of the Christian Church and belongs to the Masonic fraternity
in which he has attained the Royal Arch degree. He also belongs to the
Hoopeston Lodge and is also connected with the Modern Woodmen of America.
At 18 yrs of age in about 1869 he went to Wright Co., Mo. and worked on a farm
for one year, he then returned to Vermilion Co., Ill.
Once in Vermilion Co., Ill. he rented a farm of about 100 acres where he
resided and farmed for a number of years.
Sometime before 1879 he returned to Mo. and then to Ark. where he remarried.
We then find him again in Ind. in 1880 where he remarried once again.
He then removed to Hoopestown, Ill. and resided there for a short time.
In about 1902 he purchased a farm (section 15) near Rossville, Vermilion Co.,
