    Notes:

    George was the eldest son in his family and had to take over the farming
    operation when his father died at an early age. (his father was only 32 when
    he died).
    George enlisted his services for 100 days, joining Co. A of the 71st. ILL.
    Infantry in July, 1862. His Co. went south and joined the Western Army.
    He was engaged in guarding railroad and government property and later was in
    Ky. until the expiration of his ter of service, when he received an honoravle
    discharge in Chicago in Oct., 1862.
    After marriage he secured 80 acres of raw prairie land, whech he broke and
    fenced, and the early spring plowing and planting was followed by good
    harvests. As his resources increased he purchased additional land until he
    owned three farms in the same neighborhood, comprising of 200 acres and
    on which are farm buildings. Besides farming he was also active in stock
    raising of which he averaged 2 or 3 railcar loads of cattle and 3 railcar
    loads of hogs each year.
    He was a stanch Republican and cast his first presidential ballot for Gen.
    U.S. Grant in 1868. His wife was a member of the Christian Church.

    Uriah farmed in Danville, Vermilion Co., ILL. for some years before moving to
    a farm that was 2.5 miles from Rossville. In 1850 he purchase more than 400
    acres.
