Notes:

According to the 1810 census, William Prater was born before 1765.
His name appeared on the 1779/80 tax lists of Henry Co., Va.
In 1785 he married Elizabeth Fugate in Washington Co., Va.

In 1785 William Prater, resident of Washington Co., Va., signed a petition
requesting that Russell Co. be formed. his name then appeared on Russell Co.
tax lists of 1787-1798.
On 23 Sept., 1797 William Prater and his wife gave depositions in the case of
Abram Musick vs Harris Wilburn, Jr. in Russell Co. court.

After Tazewell Co. was formed from part of Russell Co., William Prater's
residence was located in Tazewell Co., Va. His name was on the tax list of
1809/10.

Between the early spring of 1810, when the Tazewell tax list was compiled, and
the summer of the same year, when the U.S. census was taken, the William
Prater family moved to Montgomery Co., Ky.
Bath Co., Ky. was formed from Montgomery Co. in 1811, and William Prather's
name was on the tax list of Bath Co. that year. Apparently he died before
1813, when his land was listed in the name of William Prater, Jr. or in the
name of Elizabeth Prater. The name of archibald Prater was on the personal
property tax lists and Joseph Prater's name appeared in 1820 and 1830.

In a deed recorded in Bath Co. Deed Book J, pp 259-261, 8 May, 1833, the
"children and heirs of William Prater, deceased" sold land to William Prater
Jr. This deed and others, along with Bath Co. marriage and census records,
proovide the information about William & Elizabeths Prater children.

The above information was taken from the research done by the Magoffin Co.,
Ky. Historical Society of Salyersville, Ky. and was published by them in
a book :"Archibald Prater 1755 - 1831 A Priceless heritage and other Prater
Families of Eastern Ky."

He sold this 1707 to Col. Henry Darnall.
He also received land from his step father, John Smith. Part of the
inheritance of "Orphans Gift", and other lands that came from his paternal
grandmother. In his Will he gave each of his children one shilling and the
rest of his large plantation estate to his granddaughter, Rachel Dorsett and
one cow to his grandson, William Prather (son of Jonathan III.)
AF gives her name as Biggers,but the Clagett pedigree claims her as a Clagett.WJP

Elizabeth Bigger had a brother, Walter Bigger, who inherited "Too Good"
and because he died without an heir the land "Too Good" went to Elizabeth
Bigger Prather.

Their dgter. Martha married her cousin William Nathan Prather II (ref. #822)

James Mullican's name first appears in the Maryland records in 1660 when "came
Thomas Williams and demands land for the transportation of .. James Mullican..
and others "brought all, come over in the year One Thousand Six Hundred
Sixty."

On April 18, 1664 James Mullican patented a 300 acre tract in Dorchester
County and called it "Mullikin's Orchard."
In August of 1665 he purchased another 200 acres and named it "Mullikin's
Green."

James Mullikin lived in Clavert Co. Maryland on the Patuxent River and was a
plantationer. Before 1667 he married Mary Darnall, the widow of John Darnall.
She brought one son to the marriage. His Will was written Aug., 18, 1666 and
probated Oct., 16, 1667.

James married Jane P Prater, Prather Abt 1685, of, Calvert, Md. Jane (daughter of Jonathan Prather ( Prater, I and Lyle Jane MacKay) was born 1664, Calvert, Maryland, Md; died 1710. [Group Sheet]

Jane had a daughter, Mary Mullican, who married John Bowie.

Listed in "Maryland and Virginia Colonial Families" :

John Bowie, nephew & heir of John Smith of Scotland and Maryland, the latter
of whom had married Jane, the widow of Jonathan Prather, & grd-mother of Mary
Mullican.
Amount disbursements paid from the Estate of John Smith, dec'd., Nov. 3, 1709,
was the following: Paid to John Bowie, a legacy to Mary Mullikin who has
become his wife. 50. pounds sterling.

John and Mary (Mullican) Bowie are asserted to have been the grt. grt.
grd-parents of the famous "Jim Bowie", of the Alamo.
