Founded Wellsburg, W.VA. then called Charlestown after him.(Recorded in 1789).
Charles laid out the Town that was first called Charlestown and later changed
to Wellsburg. He was one of the first to settle there and owned the land.
Shortly after it was settled a lady was killed and scalped near the river
which the settlement was located on. The Mingo Indians had an encampment on
the other side of the river and nearby. Nothing else recorded of this event.
