Notes:
He enlisted in the Confederate Army under General Forrest and served most of
the time west of the Mississippi River in the 32nd. Arkansas Infantry, Co. A.
This Company participated in various battles in Ark.
On one occasion he sustained a flesh wound, but recovered and was at the front
throughout the period of hostilities, serving for four years.
He was captured at Helena and was held a prisoner of war there.
With the close of the Civil War, he again took up farming in TN. and died in
1898.
He is buried near Old Hatchie at Toone Station, Haywood Co., TN.
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a Democrat.
He belonged to the Masonic Fraternity, and took an active interest in its
work.
He served as Master of the Mercer Masonic Lodge #740, which was originally
