    Notes:

The Draper Papers are interviews conducting by a Mr. Drape of various
families during the early pioneer days of this country.

Two interviews in the Draper MSS. collection differ as to the location of
    Mathias Yoakum at his death.
The interview with Sarah Spillman Graham indicates he and his wife
came to KY. with their son, Matthias Yoakum II.
On the other hand, the interview with Jacob Stevens, son-in-law of Mathias
Yoakum II. indicated that Matthias Yoakum I. "never came to KY."

Draper MSS. 12CC #4 Mrs. Sarah Spillman Graham:
Sarah Spillman Graham was the daughter of Charles Spillman.
Mrs. Graham was age 7 in 1780 when her family moved to KY.
At one time they were neighbors of Matthias Yoakum II. (son of Matthaia
Yoakum & Eleanor See Yoakum). She relates various incidents relating to
the Yoakums. A notation at the top of the page reads "Printed Filson History
    Quarterly 9:225-241 (Oct., 1935).
Draper Manuscripts in Wisconsin State Hist. Soc. on microfilm at Swern Lib.
College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA.

    page 48/36:
"Old Matthias Yocum's father (Matthias Yoakum I.) had 12 sons.
Felty, Coonrod, Philip Powell, Matthias, John .... died here by Esqr.
Cook's; was a Presbyterian. He lived on Roanoke, in VA. Had a wife
and raised 12 sons & 4 daughters; everyone of them when I knew them had
farms all but Felty; who was killed, while they lived on Roanoke, then
the indian frontier, in VA. The indians killed him & all the children in
their own house but 2. She got away, but went back that night & laid in
her husbands bosom, all in a gore of blood. The old people came out with
Matthias. The Yoakums were clever neighbours: great for log rolling, but
    quarrelsome among themselves."

Excerpt from Draper MSS. 12CC#5 Jacob Stevens interview
(Jacob Stevens was son-in-law to Matthias Yoakum II. and husband to Sarah).

    P. 16 "Matthias Yoakum II. came to Ky in the fall of 1779. In the Spring
of 1780, he moved our with his family to where his station (Fort) was
    formed."
In the margin of this page #16 additional notes from the interview read
    as follows:
"Matthias Yocum's II. father died in Old VA. Bottetourt Co.; never came to
