She sent me the info. on John L. Prather and family from the Chambers Co.,
Ala. census (19 Sept., 1850 page 269)
James L (lawrence?) Williams was also living in the household age 31 from GA.
James L. Williams married Georgia Brantley daughter of Green Duke Brantley and
Elizabeth Holifield of N.C. June 1, 1854 in Lafayette, Chambers Co., Ala at
the home of Georgia's brother-in-law, Johnson Jones Hooper.
Reference is made to a Williams and J.L.Prather in the book "Alias Simon
Suggs by W. Stanley Hoole, on the life of Johnson Jones Hooper, brother-in-law
of Georgia Brantley Williams.
Page 68: "On Sunday August 19, 1849, as usual he sent to LaFayette the
twenty-second weekly number of his "Chambgers Gossip" to Bates, a long pot
pourri about Chambers Co. conditions which contained the significant
information that his old friend Joseph A. Holifield (brother of Georgia
Williams mother, Elizabeth Holifield Brantley) and Williams, "a practical
printer", had purchased the LaFayette Sun, a local weekly, changed the name to
Chambers County Tribune and employed him as editor.
Page 215: (Endnote of Chaper 4;84) Chambers Co. Record of Commissioners Court
August 20, 1849 - Dec., 1868, IV, n.p. under date of Aug. 15, 1853, has
notation that Holifield & Hooper were paid $12 for advertising by the county,
W.B.Wood, Jr. of Lafayette, Ala. has a receipt dated 9 Nov., 1852, signed by
"Chambers Tribune, Holifield & Hooper." The invoice is to J.L. Williams and
marked "Paid".
Jmes L. & Georgea Williams Dau., Mary "Mollie" Hooper Williams, was born in
Chambers Co., Ala. in 1856 and they moved to Winn Parish, LA. in about 1859.
They had 3 other children, all born in LA. Kate, James Lawrence and Charlie.
In 1870, the family moved to Hunt Co. , TX. and James L. died in 1875.
