    Notes:

Notes taken from Richard Preator 6 Jan., 1906:

I was born 24 Feb., 1826 at Chalford Hill, Parish of Bisley, Gloucestershire,
    England.
Born of poor parents and my father loosing his left hand by accident, I had to
commence work when I was very young. So I had very little school except
    seminary.
I went to Sunday School until I was 17, when I heard the Gospel preached in
the open air by Henry Webb, Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of L.D.Saints.
On 21 Nov., 1843 I was baptized and confirmed into the Church by Elder Henry
    Webb.
I was called and ordained a Priest on 21 March 1847, I was called as
President of the Priest in the Chalford Hill branch. My labors were directed
by the presiding Elder of the branch.
On 2 Sept. 1847 I was married by the Rev. Mr. Wheeler, Minister of the Bedford
Stee Congergational Church in Stroud, Gloucestershire, England. To Miss Mary
Harper, daughter of Thomas and Martha Harper of Escombes, Parish of Bisley,
    Gloucestershire, England.
Mary Harper, daughter of Thomas and Martha Harper was born about the latter
part of August 1824. She was baptized 21 Nov., 1844 and confirmed in the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by Elder Henry Webb in the
Chalford Hill branch of the church.
On 26 Nov., 1848 I was called and ordained an Elder at the Cheltenham
conference, Gloucestershire, England by some of the Seventies. On 23 Aug.,
1849 I was called and set apart at the Cheltenham Conference to preside over
    the Chalford Hill branch.
In the summer of 1850 I did considerable open air preaching at the following
places. Chalford Hill, Browshill, Bussage, Bournsgreen, Oakridge, Lynch and
    Aldneibouring.
On Dec., 5, 1850 I removed to the Gloucester branch. I labored there about one
year under the president ofthe branch Elder Hayes, I then removed to
Birmingham. While living in Gloucester Mary Salome, daughter of Richard and
Mary Preator was born 18 May, 1851.
Birmingham had a branch of the chruch of 2 or 3 hundred people, and commencing
there my labors had been called for in a musical capacity for all public
gatherings, both religious and social. I have done so to the present time,
though I will be 80 years old next month I still play the Coronet every Sunday
in the Choir and Sunday school.
On 12 Jan., 1853 Lora Isabella, daughter of Richard and Mary Preator was born
in Birmingham, England. Fred Thomas, son of Richard and Mary Preator was
born 8 Oct., 1854 at Birmingham, England. Fred Thomas died 15 Feb., 1856 at
Birmingham. and on 19 Mr., 1856, I and my wife and two daughters left
    Liverpool to sail to America.
We arrived at Boston on 2 May 1856, accompained by our brass band. A few more
days travel by railway brought us to the Iowa camp ground where we had to wait
until June 9th for handcarts to be made to proceed on our journey across the
    plains and mountains to Utah.
While camping out at the Iowa camp ground our youngest daughter Lora Isabella
was taken sick. On June 9th we started driving our carts by hand. On 15 June
1856 Lora Isabella died after two weeks sickness. She was buried in the
burial ground of the Iowa settlers near Bear Creek, Iowa.
On 27 Sept. 1856, I, my wife and one daughter, Mary Salome arrived in Salt
Lake City, my wife not able to walk. One chid had died on the road and I
while being driven and tossed about on the rough seas for six weeks was sick
all that time. So we had a long and trying journey.
On 27 Aug., 1857, Richard Lorenzo, son of Richard and Mary Preator was born
at Springville, Utah. On 31 May 1860 Elizabeth, daughter of Richard and
Mary Preator was born at Richmind, Cache Co., Utah.
On about 22 June, 1874 I was married to Ruth, daughter of Thomas and Martha
Harper by Daniel H. Well, of the first Presidency of the Church of Salt Lake
    City, Utah.
On 17 Sept.., 1875 rosa Lilly, daughter of Richard and Ruth Preator was born
at Fountain Green, Sanpete Co., Utah. On 16 July 1862 William Joseph Harper
Preator, son of Richard and Mary Preator was born at Richmond, Utah.
In 1883 I moved to Independence, MO. where I now live. On Mar. 17, 1896 the
first Priesthood meeting was held in my house in Independence. This was the
first meeting since the Saints were driven out by mobs in 1833, and was
presided over by President Joshua R. Clark, President of the Northern States
Mission and 28 Missionaries and Elders.
On June 6, 1897 a bracn called the Independence Branch was organized by Binus
    W. Dixon, President of the Conference and 3 other Missionaries. Elder Picard
Preator was called and set apart as the President of the branch. I held that
position over 6 years and I am now playing the Coronet for the Sunday school
    and Choir in Independence, MO.
(note: the above hand written document is in the possession of Naomi Smith,
    Independence, MO.)

In 1896 Elizabeth (Preator) Guymon and her husband Edward Guymon moved out on

the Upper Grey Bull River at a place they called Mormon Bend. The valley soon
filled up with Mormon people. They went to the Wind River Mountains for logs
and poles to build their houses and barns. It was a long way, some 85 miles.
Edward Ray Guymon, the oldest son, remembers how his father cleared away the
snow, built a large fire, raked away the coals and then made their bed on the
warm ground. They killed some game on this trip, including a mountain sheep.
Edward's farm was just north of a farm belinging to Richard Preator, brother
of Elizabeth. The town of Burlington was in the southwestern corner of the
    Preator land.
