Notes - Her father was Edward Stewart died 14 May, 1832 and his wife died 13 Aug.,
1838. Edward Stewart and wife Mary McPherson were married ca. 1782.
Edward was a Revolutionary war soldier in Capt. Peter Houston's Co. in Col.
Shelby's regiment of North Carolina troops.
All of this data was sent to the war department on 28 Jan., 1854 by
William Praytor and his wife Nancy Stewart Praytor (Nancy was a daughter of
Edward Stewart).
They also stated that others in the family were Henry, John, Thomas, Spencer,
Elizabeth, James, Joseph, and Samuel.
James Stewart had a son James Jr. and Joseph Stewart also had a son named
James. (These were not children or descendants of Edward Stewart but stated as
members of the family.
Their application was rejected because Edward Stewart was shown living in 1840
Davie Co., N.C. and was recieving his pension.
Mary and William may not have known he was still alive, as they were living in
Union Co., Ga. at the time or Edwards death may not have been reported to the
War Dept. and others in the family living in Davies Co., N.C. continued
collecting his pension.
Edward Stewart was mentioned in the Will of William McPherson of Orange Co.,
N.C. which was proved in Feb. 1818 (Orange Co., Wills D:517) McPherson
referred to Mary and Edward Stewart as "my children".
Edward Stewarts and Mary McPhersons Praytors Children:
1. Nancy Stewart (married William Praytor)
2. Jacob B. Stewart
3. Mary Stewart
