  Richard's Obituary: Tribute of respect by the Baptist church of Christ at Union, Merriwether, Co., Ga. In memory of brother Prichard Prather, who died August 18, 1897. Brother Prather was born in Wilkes Co, Oct. 15, 1833; joined the Baptist church in 1848, and was baptized by Rev. Enoch Callaway; came to Merriwether in early life with his parents, Rev. William W. Prather and Sidney Prather. Richard was a Condederate Volunteer assigned to Co.F, 41 Reg't. Georgia Inf. Enlisted 4 Mar., 1862 Greenville, Ga. for a period of 3 yrs. and then re-enlisted. His enlistment states for 3 yrs. or during the war. $50.00 pay. He was taken prisoner a Vickburg 4 July, 1863 and paroled at Vicksburg, Miss. July 16, 1863. He appears on a Register of Way Hospital, Meridian, Miss. with "Debililies" admitted 12 July, 1865. Under the listing of "Remarks" it states he was transferred to Marion, Ala.
