  !Justiciar temp.Henry l;built a keep on his paternal fief of Montruil(au Houlme) On a film found in England,several Basset lines are enlarged.This is one,starting with his dad.Son and heir,of Weldon,Northants,Colston-Basset,Notts,&c.He was likewis e Justiciar of England. (Ord.Vital.lib.XIII.cap.24).Joint Sheriff of Surrey,Cambridge,Hunts.,Essex,Herts,Bucks,Bedf.,Norfolk,Suffolk,Northants.,and Leicester,1131(Rot.Pip.31 Hen.1).He had livery of the lands of his brother Nicholas,the same year,a nd also obtained the wardship of the lands of Geoffrey Ridel.(Ibid).He m.Maud,dau.and heir of Geoffrey Ridel,by Geva,natural dau . of Hugh Earl of Chester,(Mon.Ang.II.90b n 40;Sloane MS.XII.4 no 48),and by her had issue, He d.in or before 1144,i n which year,Maud the Empress confirmed all his lands to Geoffery Ridel his son,(see J.H.Round,"Geoffery de Mandeville"p 417).
