  !probably younger son of Fulke Paynell of Dudley.He witnessed with Ralph Paynell,the Charter of Maud the Empress to Humphrey de Bohun 1144. (Royal Chart.Duch.of Lanc.No 19 ).The Bampton Branch were evidently more closely connected with the Dudley Branch than with the Drax Branch,as is evidenced by the fact that the Paynells of Dudley and the Paynells of Bampton were both patrons of Tickford Priory,and witnessed one another's grants thereto;whereas the Bampton Branch are not mentioned in connection with any of the grants of the Drax Branch,either to Drax Priory or to the Priory of Holy Trinity,York.These notes are for William,son of Fulke. !only son
