  !In 1209,he,with Robert de Mandeville,William Comyn,and Robert de Fons,were found to be heirs of Robert Giffard of Founthill,Wilts; and he then owed 20 marks for his purparty of the lands of the said Robert Giffard (which he probably held jure uxoris)(Rot.Pip.11 Joh.Oxon & Wilts.).He adhered to John against the Barons,and was appointed Constable of Deddington Castle,Oxon,9th Nov.1215.He was employed with Thomas his brother,in Bridgnorth Castle,30 July 1226.H e married first Miss Giffard,heir of Andrew Giffard,of Founthill (who died shortly bef 9 Oct.1220 ).As early as 1168,Robert Maudit his father had custody of the fee of Robert Giffard,and probably married his younger son to Giffard's daughter and eventual coheir.By her he had issue,Robert. He married 2nd,before 1229,Beatrice,younger dau.and coheir of Ralph Murdac,by Eva de Grey,Lady of Standlake and Dornford,Oxon,by her had son John.
