Notes - Henry H. Prater was in the Indiana Infantry during the Civil War.
While guarding a grain barn in Wilmington N.C. he met a youg lady by the name
of Virginia C. Hines. They were married in about 1865.... Henry forgetting
that he was already married to Louisa Sullivan who was still living at their
home in Indiana.
When Henry did not return her letters OR return from the War, Louisa presumed
him to be dead and moved back to Kentucky and later married Eli Bratton.
It was not until Henry's death in 1900, that Louisa learned that Henry had
been alive and well all this time.... and had 4 more children.
It was at this same time that Virginia learned the she was NOT Henry's
only wife.
There was quite a battle for Henry's War Pension (approx. $13. a month)
to which was awarded to Louisa.
