  He attended Union and Jefferson College. In 1863 he went to Ky. and Settled near Lexington. He later returned to Blount Co., Tn. and then still later settled in Knox Co., Tn. ca. 1868. Then in 1869 he went to Calif. for about a year before returning to Knox Co.,Tn./ When he married he owned aprox. 670 acres. The log house he and his wife first lived in has been moved and is a frontier museum in Anderson Co., Tn.
