Notes - Fannin Co., newpaper: Honey Grove Signal 20 June, 1913
Monkstown was the scene of an ugly and serious difficulty last Sunday.
For some time bad blood had existed between the Prater brothers and Buck
Brown, young men of that community, the strained relationship growing out
of the previous arrests and court testimony.
Sunday the men met in Monkstown and had a bad fight. Buck Brown was seriously
cut by one of the Prater boys, and the first news of the tragedy said he could
not recover. He is still alive, however, and we hear he has a chance for
recovery. According to our informant the Praters had Brown down and one of
them was knifing him when Mr. Dooley, who desired to stop the finght, knocked
one of the Praters off of Brown with a club.
When Prater arose, he drew his pistol and shot, but the bullet went wide of
its mark.
