  Hamilton had a twin brother that died in infancy. His three older sons were killed at Gettysburg during the Civil War. His two younger sons were twins and they married sisters. These were Joseph Jeremiah Prather and Thomas Prather. Joseph had 2 sons, both of whom died at Birmingham,Ala. Thomas died as a young adult, but he left one son, Osborne Jeremiah Prather who was raised by his uncle Joseph Jeremiah Prather at Mt.Holly,Gaston Co.N.C.
