    • THE FOLLOWING IN A LETTER FROM JAMES PRATHER TO: MR. DANIEL COUNOVER,
LINKNEYSVILLE, UNION CO.,S.C. , A BROTHER OF HIS WIFE, RUTHER CROWNOVER.
      Dear Brother,
I received you letter dated Nov.11,1810 at the post office in Hagerstown some
time in Oct. following, how said letter came to be so long delayed in its
pasage I cannot imagine. we had began to conclude that something had happened
with you but we find you got safe home to your family and we were happy in
finding you wrote to us shortly on your return home and that you were all in
heatlth and we have to inform you that we have reason to be thankful to devine
providence that we enjoy health at present I myself am much better in health
than when you were with us. Mother had a hard spell of sickness last spring
and summer but she has recovered to as perfect health as her age will admit.
Jonathan Nisbett and Polly and family and Thomas Smith, Betsy and family and
likewise my brother and sisters and their families are well. My two sons Sam
and James are marryed Samuel to Beticy Jacques in April last and James to a
neice of George Lowe living next neighbour to us , about a month ago and are
still living on the place with us. There has been no material changes taken
place but all nearing the situatuion as when you were with us. William
Crownover and family is well and Aunt Sarah Fitch is alive and well, Therfore
if such a thing could be to see you again O how happy would we bee, as things
with us was in so confused a state there was so little time for enjoying
ourselves in society together. But our great distance from each other renders
such a thing allmost impossible Except through the medium of writing which I
wish to continue each in his turn and as we cannot have the Social Company of

each other here on earth let us remind each other that it is our duty to
ourselves to prepare or endevour to prepare to meet in Glory and Eternal
felicity where parting shall be no more. James Prather, We do one and all
send our kind love and respects to you both and all freinds. Your Loving
Brother and Sister James Prather and Ruth Prather To Mr. Daniel Cownover and
      Martha Cownover Pinkneysville, Union Co.,S.C.
