    • Pleasant was born in Ky. and he and his wife were in IL. in 1842/4.
      and he went to Adams Co., Ia. in about 1855.
      Tax list show him in Quincey Twp. Adams Co., Ia. in 1855 and in
      Washington Twp. Adams Co., Ia. in 1858 and 1860.

      From Civil War Roster: Pleasant Prather age 44 residence Quincey, Nat. Ky,
      enlisted 23 Oct., 1861, mustered 16 Nov., 1861, assassinated while on furlough
      2 Mar., 1864 Adams Co., Ia. 4th Reg. Union Army.
      He received a knock on his door, while on furlough at home, when he answered
      the door he was shot to death.
      From the History of Wash. twp, Adams Co., Ia. in an article about the Civil
      War in connection with Adams Co., It says:
      The great conflict between the North and the South grew in intensity and a
      call was made for volunteers. The 4th Infantry of Co. H was formed.
      Following are the volunteers whose names are on the memorial monument in the
      Basp. Cem.; William H. Prather, Wes Prather (George W.Prather), their father
      (does not list Pleasants name), H.Moats, W. Homan, J.J.Turney, R.W. Moore, and
      S.T.Raney.
      William H. Prather was killed in action in Atlanta, Ga and is buried there, a
      memorial was placed in Adams Co., Ia. for him.
