The estates of Nunney, Somerset were purchase for Richard Prater, Esquire
from the estates of George Prater, Esquire, in a tax transaction deal with
current owners, the heirs of Sir William Paulet (Powlett), Lord St.John, who
had inherited the Delamare estates due to his Paulet/Delamare heritage.
The Paulet family had many other fine estates and they transferred ownership
of the Delamare estates to their cousin's, the Praters, when they agreed to
pay the taxes due on all of the Paulet estates. This was a way to keep the
old Delamare estates in the hands of the family.
Richard Prater, Esquire purchased the Delamare estates from the inheitance
of his grd-father, John Prater, Esquire. (the estates of John Prater was the
collateral).
