    • Arthur was a prominent businessman in the Pulaski Co., area. An active
      democrat, he served as Dist. Highway Commissioner under Gov. A.B. "Happy"
      Chandler.
      Approximately 40 miles of Hwy 27, from Stanford to Pitman Creek bridge in
      Burnside, is now known as the Arthur Prather Highway.
      In 1942 the first Girl Scout troop was organized in Somerset by Floyd Rose,
      minister of the Meth. Church. Mrs. Nancy Oatts was the first troup leader; a
      charter from the national council was granted in Feb. 1943. In 1948, through
      the efforrts of the Scouts & the untiring zeal of their leader, a scout house
      was erected in Crystal Park on land donated by Arthur Prather.
