• Notes

  Part of his ranch at La Veta, CO. is now part of a State Park. The lands had indian ruins located on them. He was a soldier in the Cherokee Indian War and his wife, Elizabeth, received a widow's pension for his service. He may have also fought in the Civil War. He and his family settled on Huajatolla, on land along the river and east of one of the high stone walls near La Veta, Huerfano Co., CO. R.C. recieved his portion of his fathers estate from "Shelton R. Prater, Attorney -in-fact for R.C. Prater of Colorado". He is listed in the 1860 Hall Co., GA. census at age 44, which is questionable
