  Charles came west with his brother to work in the construction business which had opened in the northern MO. and southern Iowa area due to the coal mining industry boom in that part of the country. Family has stated that his family moved from Iowa to the Chickashaw Nation, Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). It is not known if the family that moved was Charles and his children or just his children.
