  Hendrin M. Prather (mis-spelled on enlistment ... Hendrick N. Prather) Listed Ashe Co., N.C. census of 1860 age 38 born in VA. Household #955 Enlisted 13 July, 1864 Company B, 5th Senior Reserves, Flint Hill, Ashe Co., N.C. Age at enlistment: 46 years 4 Mo. 6ft. Light Complextion and Hair, Grey Eyes, Farmer, born Allgehany Co., N.C. The 5th Senior Reserves was formed by consolidating two other battalions in the summer of 1864. A total of 137 men from the Ashe Co., Alleghany Co., N.C. and Grayson Co., VA. area served as prison guards at Salisbury, N.C. but Company F served as a mounted patrol guard for the Northwestern counties in N.C. As can be seen from the roster, few of the men actually wanted to be in service, and most were AWOL, Deserted and some dead (mostly due to health reasons) when the muster roll was prepared on 28 Feb., 1865. Hendrin M. (Hendrick N.) Prather was present at the muster roll.
