  • Notes
    • !Haldon house was built by Sir George Chudleigh,Bart.from Ashton.Col.Chudleigh,the father of the famous Dutches of Kingston, was the brother of Sir George Chudleigh. On the decease of Sir George,Haldon House fell to his four daughters;the eldes t of whom was married to Prideaux of Place,or Prideaux Castle near Padstow in Cornwall;the 2nd to Sir John Chichester of Youlston,Bart;3rd to Sir George Oxenden,4th unmarried.I'm placing
this here for future reference."more",Culme John is a place,In King Edward III time,Sir Gilbert Beare,Knt.dwelt there in right of Isabel, his wife, daughter of Robert Clifford;then Sir George Prideaux was seized thereof, whom succeeded Sir John hi s son."see Archdeaconry of Exeter,p.190".This is from another note,Roger of the castle, had Geoffry who had Gilbert, then it goes on with John without designating his place in line."Sir John Prideaux lost much of his land by killing of Sir Willia m Bigbery,Knt.;yet he left Orcharton and Allington unto his son, which continued in his posterity unto our rememberence;and his name planted elsewhere, flourished in degree of Knt.and
Baronet".They held Orcharton 13 descents. I am running into different spellings and or pronunciations,I know
that Prater,Praers, and Prideaux all mean "of the meadow",now two more show up in Devonshire,in the time of Henry I.Prose and Proz.Keep looking.
