  He first appeared on Hardeman Co., TN. tax rolls in 1834. Burwell Wilkes was in Hardeman Co., TN. on 27 July 1835 when he made a bond for the marriage of William Hamilton to his daughter Narcissa Jane Wilkes. William Hamilton was the son of William H. Hamilton. Burwell was also listed in the 1840 census in Hardeman Co., TN. He moved to White Co., Arkansas along with a number of other members of the Wilkes family. In addition to the two children (Narcissa & Jefferson) known by name, there were two malies born between 1830 & 1835 and two female born between 1835 & 1840. (Census records).
