  He moved, in 1868, to Clay Co., Mo. where he helped found the settlement of Prathersville, Mo. / When he came to Clay Co., MO. he became a school teacher and farmer. In about 1879 he began merchandising at Moscow, Mo. and two years later went to Excelsior Spr., Mo. where he and his partner Mr. Crockett formed "Prather & Crockett" dealers in Dry Goods, Notions, Hats, Boots, Groceries and Provisions.
