  His father died when he was very young, and in 1789 at age 7 he was bound out to Anderson Melton of bedford Co., VA. In 1808 he sold land in Bedford Co., VA. and in 1817 the Bedford Court noted that he had "moved to the next county". In 1840 he lived in the southern district of Bedford Co., VA., had no slaves. Archibald and Lucy were living with their son Wm.E. Wilkes in the 1860 cenus and Wm.E. Wilkes sister, Anna, were also living in the same household with them .... Gills Creek, Franklin Co., VA.
