In the 1860 census it list his wife Mary C. Prather age 22, born Mo., no husband is listed. James Jackson Prather was killed when his gun went off accidently while he was crossing a creek. He was on his way to his neighbors home to get them to help him get a doctor for his wife who was in labor with their son, James Jackson Prather II. Research by Dianna (Prather) Parker 1994 Antelope, Ca. A John Sanford was executor of James Prathers estate, but John Sanford died before the estate was cleared and James Prathers uncle became the new executor.
