  George attended 2 yrs. at Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa. and then returned home in 1888 and in the next yr. engaged in business in Sylvan, Franklin Co., Pa. A year later, he came again to Washington Co. and opened a general store at the old Green Spring Furnace. In 1895, he became engaged in the well-drill business at Clearspring. In 1900, he opened a general hardware and implement store in Clearspring which continued until his death. The above is from "The History of Washington Co., Md."
