  !He was on the Burgess Rolls 1652-1679 as William Stokes,Mariner,was admitted a Burgess 15 May 1679 for that he m.Margaret,daughter of Richard Jackson,merchant of Bristol.He commanded the ship John Friggott,Bristol to Barbadoes with "convicted reb eles"sent to plantations who were captured in Monmouths Rebellion of 1685.He died at sea 24 Oct 1685 and had a son William Stokes which name was a tradition in the Seend branch.
