  !History of Stokes-He was born Greensted 1717 and m.Mary {Armstrong}.He was "supernumerary for victuals"on HNS Rupert and d. at sea in 1741 as the ship was gettig ready to go into action.His will however states that he was fron St Mary, Whitechapel,London,had a wife Mary and a son William.This could have been the Mary Stokes who d.in Epping 1763.His son was baptized in Epping 1739,named William.There is no way to prove her name was Armstrong as the record of their m. has never be en found.
