  On 29 May, 1829 a tornado came through the area where the Praters lived and it struck their house. Davids mother was holding him so tight when the tornado hit and it said in the family that Davids chest was "mishapened" ever afterwards. David was listed living with Phillip Prater and Elizabeth Mayfield in the 1850 Rutherford Co., TN. census at age 28 yrs.
