    • !He was educated at Colchester Academy Conn.He moved to Canandaigue,NY.in 1807 where he studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1811.During the War of 1812 he was in active service as a Lt;in 1818 he was quartermaster; adjutant 1819,major 182 0 and colonel of the same regiment{11th reg't.Ontario Co.};later he was a brigadier and major-general.He was elected to Congress as a Whig and represented from 1836-45 and in Ripley NY where he moved in 1843.He was again elected to congress in 184 6."While serving his first erm he became a warm personal friend of Henry Clay,then speaker of the House,and the intimacy continued through life.In a speech on the Mexican War,in congress,in 1847 discussing the President's message,His remark s on the question of slavery in the territories were almost prophetic in their character".[from Marvin Genealogy].Maybe d.1852.
