- !Stokes History-He was Lord of Weston and Stokes by barony from the conquest of England.Weston and North and South Stokes appear on modern maps near Bath. He likewise moved to the north and established Stokes Castle,mentioned in Doomesday Book ne ar Craven Arms,Shropshire; the present building dating back to 1115 called Stokesay Castle was erected by Picot de Say [Shay or Haye]who was descended from the de Praers common ancester,Ranulf de la Haye.Our Norman ancesters appear to have come fr om Norway with those who followed the jarl of More.He came from Falaise,Normandy as did Duke William the Conqueror.
