  John Westley Prather moved from Tazwell Co., Va. to Hazelton, Kan. with his parents in 1888. On Sept. 16, 1893 he staked out 160 acres during the Cherokee Strip Land Run (Kay Co., Okla./ 6 miles N. of Billings, Okla.) His brother, Eli, staked out a farm ajoining his property to the south. His son Charles William "Willie" Prather took the farm across the road from his uncle Eli's farm.
