    Notes:

    Philip Prather was born in N.C. and came to S.C. when a young man with others
    in the family who were involved in surveying the area for the government.
    It appears that when his father returned to N.C. that he remained in York
    Dist. as did other members of the family.
    It appears that Philip Prather had many problems while in York Dist., S.C.
    both family related as well as legal problems.
    It appears that he had planned to return to N.C. without his wife, which
    resulted in legal actions taken against him by her.

    The following info. was supplied by Timothy Darwin-Grana.

    In Mar. 1813, Philip Prather stood trial for "Hog Stealing" from Edward
    Graham. He was found "not guilty".

    In 1821 a suit was brought against him by his wife and sister-in-law:

    The State of South Carolina
    To all and Singular the Sheriffs of the said State:

    Whereas it is represented (with pledges) of the Court of Equity of the said
    State at York, on the part of Ruth Prator who sues by Purdy Leatham her next
    friend, against Phillip Prator, her husband that the said defendant is about
    to depart the limits of this State without furnishing the said Ruth with any
    means for her support and maintenance which tends to the great prejudice of
    the said Ruth. Therefore to prevent this injustice and wrong we command you,
    that you do without delay cause the said Phillip to come personally before you
    and to give good and sufficient bail in the sum of four Hundred dallars that
    the said Phillip shall not go, or attemt to go into parts beyound the limits
    of this State without leave of the said Court, and in case the said Phillip
    shall refuse to give such security then you are to commit him to the next
    prison there to be kept in safe custody until he shall give such bail or
    security and when you have taken such bail, you are forthwith to make a
    special retun thereof to the said Court, distinctly and plainly, with your
    hands together with this writ.

    Witness Joseph G. Martin Esquire Commissioner in Equity at York Court House
    for the Equity District of York this twenty seventh day of July in the Year of
    our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one, and in the forthy-fifth
    year of American Independence.

    There was another charge against Phillip Prather for assault and battery upon
    one Lettleton Isbell. (in which he was found quilty).

    York Dist Court records also show an extended legal fight in 1831 leading to a
    Sheriff's sale of Phillip Prather's land on which he apparently defaulted the
    mortgage.
