    This land is near the head of Claford Branch, one of the tributa4ries of Big
    Juniper Crk. in chesterfield Co., S.C., containing 640 acres. Bordered by
    land owned by Hugh Ruthven, Hohn Higgins, Thomas Johnson, Wiley Smothers,
    Gilbert Clark.
    The Deed was recorded 17 Oct., 1885.

    From a Church of the Latter Day Saints Bulletin:
    The first missionaries came into Society Hill in the 1890's and the Wallace
    familyu, Wilkes Family, Braddocks, Edwards, Petty Family; johnsons, Freemans
    and the Watson Families were baptized into the Church
    Clahoun Greggs Wilkes was a stalwart member and had his barns burned by those
    who were not members of the church, and were very much opposed to those who
    did join.
    Brother Wilkes also had his crops distroyed. He only had one eye, and it
    wasn't very good, (glaucoma) but in spite of his poor vision, he had the
    scriptures pratically memorized.
